Aorangi Ski Club

The Aorangi Ski Club is one of Wellington’s oldest ski clubs with members from all over the North Island. Aorangi is a family based ski club and the only ski club that offers accommodation at all 3 ski areas on Mt Ruapehu. Aorangi has a lodge in the Iwikau Village at the Whakapapa ski area, another in Ohakune township accessing the Turoa ski area and yet another on the eastern side of the mountain in the Tukino Village at the Tukino ski Area.

Tukino Village
The Aorangi lodge at Tukino is one of 3 lodges in the Tukino Village. There is 4WD road access to the lodge door and in winter some say that the road is where the adventure begins. It is a 14 kilometre drive across the Rangipo Desert and up to the Tukino Skifield. You will need a 4 wheel drive vehicle (with chains available) to get to Tukino. From the lodge there are marvellous views east towards the Kaimanawas and north to Mt Ngaurahoe and Lake Taupo. Tukino gets the early morning sun and you can ski from the lodge to the ski lifts in the morning and back to the lodge after a day’s skiing / snowboarding on our uncrowded slopes.

Accommodation
Aorangi has a modern lodge with accommodation for up to 32 people. There is a range of 4 or 6 bunks per room with adjacent en suites. Other facilities include: Drying room for ski gear, large open plan kitchen, dining room, lounge, all in a warm and friendly environment.

Lodge Life
Being in a club environment means everyone has a role to play ensuring the lodge runs efficiently. With a “many hands make light work” approach, duties such as meal preparation and cleaning are not onerous as they are shared by everyone.

Accommodation is available for members and non members. See Ski and Stay Packages for details.
